Valencia is synonymous with modernity, thanks to the City of Arts and Sciences, made up of several buildings: Oceanogràfic, the largest aquarium in Europe; Hemisfèric, an IMAX cinema; the Umbracle, a viewpoint with gardens; the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía; the Príncipe Felipe Science Museum; and Ágora, a multifunctional space.
In spring, the city celebrates the Fallas de San José, declared an Intangible Heritage of Humanity, starting with the Plantà, when the socially critical monuments are erected, the Mascletàs and offerings to the Virgin, and culminating in the Cremà.
Water sports such as scuba diving, windsurfing and kayaking are also popular. The marina is one of the best in Europe and has hosted international events such as the Volvo Ocean Race and the America’s Cup.
As for nature, just 15 minutes from the city is the Albufera Natural Park. This coastal wetland is one of the most ecologically interesting places on the peninsula, as it is home to numerous water birds, some of which are in danger of extinction.
